Japanese Wakizashi Tsuba 

Japanese iron wakizashi tsuba. Round shape (maru gata). Tsuba with two holes (holes for storing or histsu-ana) the main center hole (nakago-ana) for the blade and one for the Kozuka (small short knife). Simple design with a small flower and some tall grass with what appears to be some flying birds. Size approx 2 5/16 inches X 2 9/16 inches. Main center hole for blade approx 5/16 inches wide X 1 inch in length. Believe this is Edo period (1603-1867).

Additional notes:
The diameter of an average katana tsuba is 3.0 to 3.1 inches (7.5 to 8 cm).
The diameter of a typical wakizashi tsuba is 2.4 to 2.6 inches (6.2-6.6 cm).
The diameter of a typical tanto tsuba is 1.8 to 2.4 inches (4.5-6 cm).
